We encourage you to support Write to Be in one of the following ways:

  • $30: One school supplies Kit for girls. This includes a package of pencils, paper, notebooks, textbooks, and crayons to support the continuing education of the girls in Les Cayes whose families were affected by the earthquake.

  • $50: support for the Fi Ki Fò after school program developed by US and Haitian educators that teaches girls how to develop positive relationships, learn critical skills, engage in their community, and empower themselves and others.

  • $100: One Fanm Ki Fò grant, provides emergency funding for women in Les Cayes facing hardship after the earthquake to help rebuild their livelihoods.

  • $500: One month salary to hire a psychologist. From the earthquake to political upheaval to COVID-19,  this year has been traumatizing for the girls in our program. We would like to hire a part-time psychologist to offer counseling and support to fully embed a trauma informed approach to our work and to provide the girls in our program with life and coping skills to become confident, compassionate, and independent women.

Short Term Priorities:

1. Bolster distribution of essential supplies.

Write to Be will give $1,000 to Réconfort to bolster their stock of tents as temporary shelter, food, drinking water, and clothing to be distributed to the people of Les Cayes.

2. Give emergency cash grants to women and families.

For the next month, Write to Be will give grants of at least $100 to women and their families who have expressed need for tents, food, water, and clothing. We will prioritize grants for our network of over 100 Fi Ki Fò program alumni, partners, and teachers who have worked with Write to Be since its founding and the families of the girls in the Fi Ki Fò program.

Long Term Priorities:

1. Partner with local organizations leading home repair and rebuilding.

Over the next six months to one year, Write to Be will engage with local organizations who have the capacity and expertise to restore safe and reliable infrastructure. Additionally, we will continue to give Fanm Ki Fò grants to support women with hiring local contractors for home repairs.

2. Prioritize the social-emotional needs of Fi Ki Fò program participants.

Over the next six months to one year, Write to Be will strengthen our program activities that promote social-emotional health. Once day-to-day operations are feasible again, we will hire a psychologist to provide one-on-one and group counseling for participants of the program.

3. Engage our U.S. communities in educational discussions about Haiti rooted in anti-racism and anti-colonialism.

Over the next six months, Write to Be will host a virtual speaker series that explores topics such as Haitian culture and history through a feminist lens and engages with Haitian and Haitian-American leaders, scholars, and experts.
